I am afraid we must advise that Coombe Park will be shut down to all events and visitors until further notice. Despite our best efforts it appears that the dreaded Strangles has now come onto the stable yard. Currently there is only one pony affected but we have tested everything at Coombe Park for contact with the disease and are at present awaiting these results. As soon as we have them those horses affected will be isolated and treated. Our vets are working overtime, as are our staff and together we aim to get this contained and cleared as soon as possible.

Click here for more information about Strangles Strangles is a highly contagious equine disease. This year has been very bad in Devon and Cornwall for Strangles. We have had another instance at Honeysuckle Farm and our staff have worked very hard maintaining quarantine there, and we are quite certain the infection to Coombe Park came from elsewhere. Although Strangles is not often fatal to horses, we feel that closing all public activity at Coombe Park is the only responsible action to take, and apologise to anyone who was looking forward to an event there.
More information will be posted here when known.
