Nature and wellbeing

Caring for horses and ponies – and being with them outside in nature – is good for our health, happiness and wellbeing.

Open Days and Nature-based Events

We have four peaceful sanctuaries in Devon where our rescued horses and ponies are provided with lifelong care.  We hold regular open days at these sanctuaries  to enable you to connect with our horses and nature.  You can find and book your next visit through our events calendar.

Our outdoor learning is delivered through our Wellies for Wellness course, which encompasses a range of inclusive nature based activities at our Coombe Park Equestrian and Education Centre.   These can also be booked via our events calendar.

Environment and Sustainability

We are committed to playing our part in making the world a more sustainable, responsible and equitable place. We are embedding care for the environment in the culture of our charity as part of our goal to be a sustainable sanctuary.  We’re working to minimize our impact on the environment by reducing water use, preventing pollution, reusing materials, recycling and reducing waste to landfill.

Meadow Restoration at Coombe Park

We’re delighted to get specialist support and funding to reinstate our meadows at Coombe Park through collaborating with Moor Meadows and Plantlife through the Green Recovery Challenge Fund.

We are delighted that being part of this project will enable us to restore some of our hay meadows as part of our sustainable grazing and biodiversity approach here. An increase in plant diversity will benefit many forms of wildlife, from meadow butterflies to wild bee populations, birds to bats. The rescued horses at Coombe Park enable people of all ages to connect to the wild beauty of the natural world through our equine assisted learning, therapeutic riding and outdoor learning courses.

Coombe Park Equestrian and Education Centre

Our beautiful 80 acre Equestrian and Education Centre near Totnes is home to our rescued horses and ponies and our alternative education and training through equine assisted learning, therapeutic riding and outdoor learning.  Where safe and appropriate, we use the whole site for our activities which includes hay meadows, woodland areas, green lanes and stunning views of Dartmoor from our hill top fields.

Coombe Park retains its medieval field layout and we have an ancient well spring on our site too.
