Our little Shetland pony Fineality has proved you’re never too old to find a loving new home.
The 27-year-old is the first pony we have rehomed from our South Manor retirement yard near Newton Abbot – a home we thought would be her last.
That is until 10.2hh Fineality was visited by Nigel Salmon, who was looking for a companion for his 23-year-old Shetland Saphy.
It can be hard to rehome older horses and ponies, not least because they suffer with health issues or are on long-term medication.
South Manor offers fully equipped facilities and expert grooms who can provide specialist care, which left Fineality a picture of health.
A delighted Nigel said: “Fineality is a lovely pony and her age didn’t concern us because Saphy’s previous companion lived to 32 years old! We’re no spring chickens ourselves, so it’s nice to have the pleasure of looking after two sweet, well-behaved ponies.”
South Manor groom Lindsey Stride said: “We are so pleased Fineality has found her happy-ever-after in a wonderful home.
“She is such a people pony and we knew she would benefit from even more one-on-one attention. As a team we feel proud to have provided Fineality with the highest possible standard of care, leaving her sprightly enough to find a new home in her older years.”
