Major gifts, trusts and foundations

If you would like to fund large projects or one-off items please get in touch with our Philanthropy Team. We are committed to working with you on an individual basis and are always happy to provide updates on the progress of our rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming activities and specifically on work that has received direct funding.

We are always happy for representatives/individuals to visit our sanctuaries around Devon to see what we do first hand.

Supporters of the Sanctuary

Fiona Crawford Horse & Dog Photography

Fiona Crawford Horse & Dog Photographer supports the Mare and Foal Sanctuary through regular photoshoots. Her photos can even be seen in our annual calendar.

“I am a professional horse and dog photographer based in Devon, working for compassionate owners who want to celebrate their pets through my photographs. I have supported the Mare and Foal Sanctuary since 2013 using my photography to help the sanctuary tell their story.

“I think the Mare and Foal Sanctuary shows us hope. No matter what horse or pony crosses their path, no matter what condition or reason for this, the sanctuary provides love, support and knowledge.”

Thank you.

Funded Projects

The Postcode Local Trust

The Postcode Local Trust is a grant-giving charity funded entirely by players of The Postcode Lottery. The Sanctuary received £19,999 from the Trust to help us with our sustainability project ‘Look to Longer Term’ which focuses on combating climate change, by adopting ways that contribute to sustaining the living planet, at each of our six sanctuaries across Devon. Read more about this project here.

The Hobson Charity

Thank you to The Hobson Charity who awarded our charity a  lifesaving grant. Lady Hobson OBE and her fellow trustees responded to our urgent appeal for funding during the Coronavirus pandemic with an award to contribute to our veterinary costs, medication and treatments.

Petplan Charitable Trust

Thank you to the support of Petplan Charitable Trust who granted us £5,000 towards a high intensity care unit at our Coombe Park Sanctuary. This new build will benefit our retired horses and ponies who have complex health care needs.

Founded in 1994, the Petplan Charitable Trust (PCCT) has a simple mission to promote the health and welfare of animals in the UK and beyond.

Support Adoption for Pets

We are so grateful for support from Laura at Support Adoption for Pets (pictured) and the Jean Sainsbury Animal Welfare Trust for their help in funding our Yelverton Sanctuary.

Sports England

We are delighted to announce that we have received funding from Sports England which will help us to engage inactive women and girls aged 16+ to take part in physical, equestrian based exercise with our rescued horses and ponies.

We have lived experience of how horses have made a difference to our lives and we know how to make a difference to other people’s lives through horses. Participants will spend time outdoors at our beautiful Sanctuary in the heart of the Devon countryside, working with some of our gentle rescued horses and ponies and specially trained staff and qualified accredited coaches.

By developing a sanctuary that is shared by horses, ponies and people, we will ensure that more women and girls will find their lives enriched through regular contact with our ponies and access to our beautiful location.
