You can make a difference by donating your time

Could you donate your time and effort to The Mare and Foal Sanctuary?

Are you looking to learn new skills, gain valuable retail experience, make friends and improve your job prospects?

You can do all this and more while directly contributing to the care of neglected, unwanted or abused horses. We have a variety of volunteer roles at the Sanctuary for people from all walks of life.

Charity shop volunteer

We have charity shops in Devon and we need volunteers to help us operate and organise them. Whatever time you can offer us, working in the shops can be rewarding and interesting.

It’s also a great way for those looking to get back into work to gain valuable experience.

Online listing volunteer

If you have an interest in unusual or sought-after items and are a confident Ebay user, we have just the opportunity for you! Immerse yourself in a wealth of interesting, unusual and sometimes rare pre-loved goods to raise even more funds to help the ponies in our care.

This is a varied role and includes researching and pricing goods as well as being on top of bids and posting purchases.

Warehouse volunteer

We need help to sort, price and prepare our pre-loved goods for sale. Or you could assist our van driver by helping to prepare deliveries to one of our charity shops.

Sanctuary care volunteer

Working on the yards with our sanctuary care teams is hard work but it’s also very rewarding.

We welcome people with good, practical equine skills and knowledge to work alongside our grooms.

You will receive a full health and safety induction and support, training and mentoring with a dedicated mentor from within the Horse Care teams.

Please note we are currently not accepting applications for Coombe Park.

We do not require volunteers to ride or to train the horses and ponies.

Maintenance volunteer

There’s always something that needs tweaking or repairing at our various properties. The list of general maintenance chores is ever present – for example, cutting the grass, keeping the borders tidy, checking the fencing, painting and plumbing.

If you have experience or skills in any form of maintenance, we’d love to hear from you.

We are currently unable to take any volunteer or work experience applications from anyone who is under 18.
