In the spotlight with FEI Ride
In May we were joined by Fédération Equestre Internationale as part of their brand-new series RIDE. RIDE takes a deeper look into the equestrian world and explores the fascinating bond between humans and horses across the planet.
FEI visited our Upcott Park sanctuary near Holsworthy to learn more about our Sanctuary at Home scheme. We provide lifelong, loving care and support to over 600 rescued horses and ponies. We do this through our network of knowledgeable carers and also in our peaceful sanctuaries. Our sanctuaries are for the horses and ponies whose needs mean that they cannot easily be cared for elsewhere.
The film features the rehoming journey for a pony like Zahra who arrived at the sanctuary in 2012 as part of a RSPCA welfare case. Zahra was emaciated on arrival, and she continued to struggle with managing change. We knew Zahra needed a special handler that she could bond well with.
In the video, we explain more about the importance of matching a pony to a carer as well as what happens throughout the rehoming process.
Zahra was successfully rehomed to Sanctuary at Home carer Lesley as a companion for her mare, Star. Lesley said: “Zahra has settled in so well. I can lead her and Star together. I really do love her!”
