Women in Business success for Mare and Foal Sanctuary’s Sarah Jane Williamson

On 26th November, our Chief Executive, Sarah Jane Williamson, received the prestigious Devon Women in Business Inspirational Leader award. We are incredibly proud that Sarah Jane has been recognised with this honour.

The Devon Women in Business awards is open to all female entrepreneurs and female-led businesses in Devon. The Inspirational Leader category is sponsored by enlightenHR and is for “a female business person based in Devon, someone who is seen as a leader in their field, a source of advice and expertise, motivates others and inspires other women in business.”

Sarah Jane attended the awards at Buckfast Abbey Conference Centre with our Director of Fundraising and Communications, Dawn Vincent, and Margaret Oscar who is a Mare and Foal Sanctuary volunteer and Devon-based business person. Dawn and Margaret were both instrumental in highlighting the work of Sarah Jane and the Mare and Foal Sanctuary to the judges.

Sarah Jane shared her reaction to the award: “I’m surprised and delighted to have won the Inspirational Leader category at the Devon Women in Business Awards. I can only be inspirational because of the inspirational team and inspirational cause at the Mare and Foal Sanctuary.”

Sarah Jane’s career has spanned education, public health management and the charity sector at national level. She has extensive experience of leading innovation and improvement in health services and in organisational design, transformation and governance.

Sarah Jane explains her vision for the charity: “The Mare and Foal Sanctuary’s work in equine welfare is more relevant than ever from an ethical, environmental and ecological viewpoint and we are in a unique position to contribute to the global conversations about these.

“The charity was founded on the principles that horses and ponies, as sentient beings and close companions to humans over the centuries, have a value and a purpose. We – and our wonderful supporters – believe this continues to be relevant in the 21st century, if not more so as people of all ages risk becoming disconnected from the natural world.”

We hope our friends and supporters will join us in congratulating Sarah Jane.
