Reggie and his beautiful Pearl

After moving into a house with stables and grazing land, Annie Smith came to us looking for a companion for Pearl, her daughter’s pony. When she took tiny Shetland Reggie home with her, Annie really didn’t know what to expect, but Reggie soon stole her heart.

Reggie was about four when he came to the Mare and Foal Sanctuary as part of a large welfare case on Bodmin Moor. He was just 7.2hh and semi-feral but he loved his training and picked things up really quickly.

Annie had been keeping Pearl at a livery stable, and when they brought her to their new home, they needed a pony to keep her company.

“Reggie has turned out to be perfect,” said Annie. “He gets on well with Pearl and is quite happy to be left on his own when she’s out hacking or at a show. He’s such a friendly little chap who keeps us laughing all the time. There isn’t a bad bone in his body and he really seems to enjoy life.

“He loves a scratch and a cuddle and my eight-year-old daughter, Hannah, adores him. She loves taking him for walks around the country lanes near our home in South Devon.”

Hannah added: “He’s so cuddly and affectionate. Every night he comes to the stable door for a good night kiss.”

These are the happy endings that make our hard work so worthwhile!
