Nero

Nero

Nero

Available

Rehome Classification: Companion

Age: 11

Breed: Moorland

Height: 12.1hh

Gender: Gelding

Colour/Markings: Dapple Grey

Personality
Nero is full of character and will often be seen playing with his field companions. He likes to be kept busy, being groomed, going out for walks, lunging or long reining. He is known to take opportunities when he sees his stable door or gate being opened, but this behaviour lessens if he has more mental stimulation.

Health and Training

Health Status:

Nero has had Equine Metabolic Syndrome (EMS) in the past and will need his weight monitoring. No current health conditions.

Training Level:

Nero has been doing groundwork with us including in hand walks of up to an hour, lunging and long reining.

Nero's Past

Nero came to the Sanctuary as part of our 2018 merger with another charity.

Nero's Future

Rehoming Fee: £50

Nero would benefit from living in a home with a carer who will continue to help monitor his weight with exercise as this is something he enjoys and also helps his behaviour. He would need his weight monitoring to avoid obesity.

Nero would need a carer with experience in ground work and also companions who are active and enjoy mutually grooming and playing in the field. Nero lives in a herd of geldings who live out as much as possible but will also happily be stabled if required.

Become a Sanctuary at Home Carer

To help you become a Sanctuary at Home Carer, we have a dedicated team managing our scheme and their job is to help find the right equine for you and then support you throughout your rehoming experience.

Our Pathways

We have three rehoming pathways within our Sanctuary at Home scheme. These are:

Prime Pastures

This scheme enables us to rehome horses and ponies with long-term medical conditions that are manageable. You'll be required to help support their condition with regular monitoring and we contribute towards the costs of their veterinary treatments.

Foster

Working alongside us to socialise and train young or rideable horses for future work in our education programmes. You'll help provide a home setting for these horses to mature before returning to the Sanctuary for further assessment. We work closely with you to keep up to date records of their training, achievements, milestones, setbacks and all aspects of their care.

Standard

Means you help provide a sanctuary at home for as many years as you can for a horse or pony from our charity on a loan basis.
