Storm

Storm

Available

Rehome Classification: In training with the potential to become ridden

Age: 8

Breed: Native pony

Height: 12.2hh

Gender: Gelding

Colour/Markings: Grey

Personality
Storm is a very loving and playful young pony. He loves to be around people and likes to be kept entertained. He enjoys any enrichment that he can pick up and play with, such as balls, buckets and dog toys. Storm can be a little bit nibbly and will try to play with coats, phones or anything that looks interesting that he can investigate.

Health and Training

Health Status:

Storm has no current health conditions; He had his stifle treated a few years ago but has been cleared by a vet to start ground work if desired. Storm has had successful sarcoid treatment in the past.

Training Level:

Storm has been having training for injections as he was extremely needle shy. He has done some ground work including long reining, in the past. He has worn a bridle and roller, but this is very new to him so he would need a good settling in period before resuming this training in a new environment.

Storm's Past

Storm came to us in 2017 with a small group of ponies as his owner was no longer able to care for him.

Storm's Future

Rehoming Fee: £50

Storm would be best suited to a quiet home with an experienced carer who would be happy to carry on his training regularly.

Storm can live out all year round but would need to have his weight watched and his grazing restricted to avoid obesity.

His ideal home would be with another equine with similar requirements. He can only live with geldings. Storm is happy to be left behind when other horses are worked, making him the ideal companion pony.

If someone had the right experience, Storm could potentially be backed and start ridden work. Equally, he would make a lovely companion or in hand agility pony. Based on his size and weight, his rider weight limit would be 7 stone.

Become a Sanctuary at Home Carer

To help you become a Sanctuary at Home Carer, we have a dedicated team managing our scheme and their job is to help find the right equine for you and then support you throughout your rehoming experience.

Our Pathways

We have three rehoming pathways within our Sanctuary at Home scheme. These are:

Prime Pastures

This scheme enables us to rehome horses and ponies with long-term medical conditions that are manageable. You'll be required to help support their condition with regular monitoring and we contribute towards the costs of their veterinary treatments.

Foster

Working alongside us to socialise and train young or rideable horses for future work in our education programmes. You'll help provide a home setting for these horses to mature before returning to the Sanctuary for further assessment. We work closely with you to keep up to date records of their training, achievements, milestones, setbacks and all aspects of their care.

Standard

Means you help provide a sanctuary at home for as many years as you can for a horse or pony from our charity on a loan basis.
