Barbara’s story
Barbara has worked as a volunteer at our Brunel retail shop in Newton Abbot for eight years.
Barbara was keen to find a voluntary role when she retired and, although she hasn’t been in the best health, she says that volunteering helps her to stay happy, busy and positive.
‘I enjoy meeting people and spending time with the shop and warehouse staff, they are passionate about providing the best service’ Barbara says. ‘I love the challenge of finding items that customers are keen to have and creating attractive shop displays. It keeps my mind active.’
‘My friend worked at one of The Mare and Foal Sanctuary’s shops and it seemed a natural step to come in and help. I love animals, so was drawn to the idea of working for an equine welfare charity.
‘Horses are beautiful creatures, and I can’t understand how anyone would harm them. We hear such sad stories of ponies that are rescued by our charity, so it makes me feel that supporting them through volunteering is so worthwhile.’
Rebecca manages our Brunel shop and says: ‘Barbara is an amazing lady who gives her time willingly to come and help. I value Barbara as a real friend. She always shows up with a smile and a positive attitude and is a delight to work with.’
We cannot thank Barbara, and all of our hard-working volunteers, enough for the incredible support they give us.
