Robin

When Robin arrived at the sanctuary in 2018, he was already blind in his right eye but was managing to cope well. Earlier this year we noticed that his eye was starting to cause him some discomfort. It was inflamed and he could barely open it. There were concerns that Robin’s eye was cancerous and a decision was made by our expert veterinary team to remove it.

Robin, accompanied by his companion Reuben, travelled to our Beech Trees Veterinary and Welfare Assessment Centre for an operation to remove his eye in September. The operation was a success. After further tests it was discovered that the eye had signs of melanoma. The eye socket is now healing nicely.

Robin’s groom Harriett said: “Robin is a lovely pony. We’re so pleased to see him healing well and no longer in pain. He has adjusted brilliantly after his surgery and is back to his old self. Being able to give ponies like Robin a place where they can recover and adapt to their changing needs is so important. In the future we will care for equines with complex needs at our purpose-built high intensity welfare unit.”
