Storm Cloud
For every equine we rescue, we must also ensure they have lifelong care. Our carers who rehome through our Sanctuary at Home scheme are a group of very special people who help make this possible for over 400 horses and ponies today.
Kerry and her daughter Lucia from Truro wanted to loan through our Sanctuary at Home scheme because they felt they had a lot to offer a pony that might not be easy to re-home.
Kerry says: ‘We saw Storm Cloud on the website five years ago. I was told that he could be complex to handle, but we met him and there was an instant connection. ‘When he came home it felt like he’d always been with us. He wasn’t a “cuddly” pony but Lucia bonded with him by playing ball, carefully avoiding the reach of his teeth!
‘They’ve both had challenges in their lives. Lucia was born ten weeks early after having surgery to save her life in the womb. She’s battled with physical difficulties since she was born and is visually impaired. She has autism and struggles with social interactions. ‘Very quickly Lucia and Storm became inseparable. No matter the weather, how tired she was or if she was unwell, Lucia never complains about getting out to look after him.
‘It was when they performed at their first local horse show that they truly discovered their confidence. Over the years they’ve won so many prizes including Concourse D’Elegance and a Reserve Supreme Championship.
‘Storm is the most loving, hilarious and brave pony. He puts his heart into everything that Lucia asks of him. He communicates his feelings wonderfully and we are so proud that he trusts us to listen. He has a beautiful soul, and we honestly feel we won the pony lottery the day we met him.’
Our work relies on the support of our loving Sanctuary at Home Carers, who provide space for horses and ponies in need at our Sanctuary sites.
