There are a range of different ways to join in from traditional open days to drop-in sessions. The sanctuary will remain appointment only on other days, but we are keen to see as many of you as possible during our events.

Open Days

Enjoy a behind-the-scenes guided tour of our peaceful sanctuaries. Connect with our rescued horses and ponies, hear their back stories and meet the knowledgeable grooms who care for them. You’ll be able to hear about our life-changing education and therapy activities and have a go at creating enrichment toys for our horses and ponies.

Refreshments will be available to purchase on the day, and you can help us raise vital funds by taking part in our hamper raffle, purchasing items from our pop-up shop or even adopting a pony after you’ve met them in person. Booking in advance is essential as numbers are limited. Book here.

Confident Horse

The Mare and Foal Sanctuary is committed to sharing the very best advice on horse care and wellbeing. Our successful Confident Horse webinars and events run throughout the year on subjects ranging from body language to needle shyness.

Our team of training and behaviour experts offer real-world, practical advice that genuinely works. Each webinar and event provides an in-depth look at a subject followed by the opportunity to ask questions at the end. Find out more.

Drop-in Days

You will be able to see first-hand just how necessary our work is when you learn about our horses and ponies from our knowledgeable staff.

Each session lasts up to two hours and is completely free of charge. Tours take place on set days. Please contact our Community Engagement Officer, Scarlett, to book your visit. scarlett.moon@mareandfoal.org or phone 01822 8554477.

Visitor Information

Disabled access: There is disabled parking at all of our sanctuaries. Most public areas on the site are accessible to wheelchairs but the main car park and some of the field lanes have loose surfaces which may make pushing a wheelchair difficult. If you require assistance please ask a member of staff.

We look forward to welcoming you and would kindly ask that you keep to the following:

  • No dogs allowed on the stable yard except for guide dogs.
  • Our sites are smoke free and visitors may only smoke in designated areas.
  • All children must be supervised closely to ensure they and our horses are as safe as possible.
  • Please don’t offer any food without first asking a member of staff whether it is ok. Our horses are all on specialist diets and since some are under medication any additional food may be harmful.
  • Please don’t litter. Devon is beautiful, please help us to keep it that way.
