Zira is a sweet natured and gentle pony who enjoys the attention of her human and equine companions.

Zira is looking for a home as a companion equine.

Zira is a sweet natured and gentle pony who enjoys the attention of her human and equine companions.

Zira is straight forward to handle and is an affectionate girl. She enjoys having a groom and will stand well for her handler, she is excellent at having her feet hosed and picked out and is regularly handled by staff and volunteers alike. Zira can do in hand work such as agility and walks out and would enjoy engaging in this with her handler. She has seen both large and small traffic and is confident with both.

Zira is good for the farrier and the vet, but she does struggle with confidence for injections. Due to this, Zira has been trained using positive reinforcement and clicker training. She is switched on and engages well with her training here at the sanctuary and would need a handler who will continue this in her home. We are able to provide training and support for this.

Zira is respectful of electric fencing. She does get anxious when she is separated from her companions so would need a home where she will always have company. Zira is used to living out but is equally happy to be stabled for part of the time.

Become a Sanctuary at Home Carer

To help you become a Sanctuary at Home Carer, we have a dedicated team managing our scheme and their job is to help find the right equine for you and then support you throughout your rehoming experience.

Our Pathways

We have three rehoming pathways within our Sanctuary at Home scheme. These are:

Prime Pastures

This scheme enables us to rehome horses and ponies with long-term medical conditions that are manageable. You'll be required to help support their condition with regular monitoring and we contribute towards the costs of their veterinary treatments.

Foster

Working alongside us to socialise and train young or rideable horses for future work in our education programmes. You'll help provide a home setting for these horses to mature before returning to the Sanctuary for further assessment. We work closely with you to keep up to date records of their training, achievements, milestones, setbacks and all aspects of their care.

Standard

Means you help provide a sanctuary at home for as many years as you can for a horse or pony from our charity on a loan basis.
