Legacy giving
The Mare and Foal Sanctuary is a legacy in itself. Our journey began in 1988 when our founder Rosemary Kind began taking in small, injured, weak or unwanted horses and ponies in the South West of England and from these humble beginnings we have grown to become expert in rescuing, rehabilitating and retraining those in greatest need. We sadly lost Rosemary in June 2022, but our work continues in her memory and we are proud to continue her legacy for generations to come.
From neglected thoroughbreds, unwanted and feral moorland ponies to orphaned foals like Ava (pictured), we have cared for them all. We have loved them back to health and made sure they have a happy future, living at our specialist yards and with loving families through our vital rehoming scheme.
As an organisation, we receive no central or government funding whatsoever, so we rely heavily on the generosity of our supporters leaving us a gift in their Will to fund our work. It means these gifts are of huge significance to us, regardless of size. Whatever your reason for supporting us, by deciding to remember us in your Will, you’ll enable us to provide a sanctuary for life to horses and ponies like Ava.

“I support the Mare and Foal Sanctuary because I am only too aware of the need for knowledgeable people to care for abandoned and neglected horses and ponies. In addition, the current economic problems in this country have resulted in even responsible owners being unable to continue to care for their equines. This has resulted in a major nationwide crisis that can only be reduced by as many people as possible sending donations, no matter how small. I know nothing about how to care satisfactorily for a horse or pony, all I can do is send whatever financial contributions I can to enable others to provide what is needed. Unfortunately, this situation seems certain to continue long after I am dead so by including the Mare and Foal Sanctuary in my Will I plan to provide one last gift for a better future for a few more horses and ponies.”
